Outdoor Updated and Caving in Yorkshire

Another busy weekend here at Rock Steady Adventure sorting kit for this week’s activities – including the purchase lots of new caving gloves as demand for exploring underground takes off with a bang!

Keep an eye on our facebook page for updates on what’s new for adult groups, including some new activity’s and some exciting new locations, and also what’s new for school groups that can really develop young abilities in the outdoors and help progress these aptitudes into important life skills.

There’s been a few enquiries from smaller groups this week so we’ll post the dates on our website and the Facebook page events incase any other small groups want to take advantage of the offers.  Our events are normally exclusive for a group – but if you’re happy to share then we’re happy to facilitate that – just check the website for details of open courses – or contact us to arrange exclusive group outdoor adventures.

February Update

It is still a very busy period at Rock Steady Adventure, despite the cold weather.

We have just completed lots of risk assessments and method statements for forthcoming events, plus updates for our standard adventure activities too.

We really enjoy coming up with bespoke experiences to suit unique requirements – and are having a lot of fun putting some tremendous challenges together for events starting in the next few weeks. We are very excited about our recent discussions regarding a mobile zip-wire – so if time is short we can bring the buzz to you rather than bring you to the buzz. We’ll have more news on that idea in action soon, plus an adventure quest with a very different twist, and strategic orienteering  that gets the adrenalin pumping.

Our standard offer still gets lots of attention too – and often our range of regular adventures such as gorge walking, coasteering, mountain biking and rock climbing, can be tailored to exactly suit your groups’ requirements.  We’ll keep this blog updated during this busy time, but also like our facebook page for more information out outdoor activities in Yorkshire.

LRO Spring Adventure Driffield – no 4×4 Driving Yorkshire?

According to the organisers of the Landrover Owner International Spring Adventure Show at Driffield the 4×4 off roading event has been “cancelled due to lack of interest”.

We’ve driven the military testing course close to the show ground on many occassions and it’s great!  Granted last year was rather dry and the lack of a natural water course meant the local farmer had to ferry bowsers of water in – but every other year the course has been brilliantly muddy with some really testing hill climbs.

We’re waiting for clarification from LRO’s Editor on what’s happening at the Driffield Landrover Show this year as it’s hard to believe that the show can survive as a viable event without the lure of a great off road course.

Ilkley Moor, Yorkshire

The near perfect weather conditions on Saturday called for a group outing walking over Ilkley Moor, Yorkshire.

As you can see from the pictures below the weather was clear and very bright (click the image to see a clearer version)

Ilkley Moor, YorkshireWith the light snow and hard frost from the night before crunching under foot the path takes you from Dick Hudson’s Public House gently uphill to the circular stone structure known as the 12 Apostles.

There’s a choice at the standing stones to either continue into the town of Ilkley (potentially stopping for a hot chocolate at the White House on the side of Ilkley Moor) or to do a u-turn and head back towards High Eldwick, we did the later.

This is far from a long hike but the scenery and views were tremendous – and despite the very wet conditions underfoot (not unusual on Ilkley Moor at any time of year!) we managed to not get too muddy.

The views throughout the walk are amazing and it’s highly recommended for anyone who hasn’t experienced it to try it sometime soon – either as a purely social event in the outdoors or a chilled out team building exercise followed by a couple of local bitter in one of the local hostelries.

RNLI Whitby Fun Day Fundraisers – 21st April 2012

A 21 mile Welly Walk from Scarborough to Whitby, it’s along the coast so the views will be amazing!  You can see more information here – Whitby Welly Walk.

A choice between a 20 and a 40 mile bike ride which take in loads of the beautiful Yorkshire Countryside – see more information here – RNLI Whitby Cycle.

All participants and spectators should have a great day out and participants in either event will receive a free RNLI T Shirt.

Yorkshire Snow Report

Having just taken the mountain bike over the top of Baildon moor I can confirm the top is covered in snow and the wind is driving it sideways.  Lovely.

The decent from the top was very tricky tonight as the mud is deep and very slippy rendering brakes all but useless, thank goodness now one else was mad enough to be doing the same thing – I had the moor to myself a bit like in the photo of Baildon Moor, Yorkshire from Baildon.org.

Adventure Companies Yorkshire – New Logo

Along with the work we’re doing creating leaflets to promote the 2012 range of outdoor activities for Stags Dos, Hen Parties and Corporate Team Buliding activities we had our logo re-styled so it’s cleaner and a bit more sparkly.

It may not seem massively different but there’s been considerable time and effort invested in this new logo for Rock Steady Adventure, so we hope you like it.

Whatever type of outdoor group activity you’re organising in Yorkshire then have a browse of the Adventures on our website and contact us to discuss your requirments – we tailor bespoke group activities every day and would be delighted to work with your group or company.

Outdoor Adventure Blog – now approved only comments

Thanks to a flood of really spammy blog comments we’ve restricted the posting of comments on this Outdoor Adventure blog until they’ve been approved.

We’d really appreciate comments and debates about outdoor activities – especially in Yorkshire – so please don’t hesitate if you’ve got a genuine comment to make. Just post your activity related comments, we’ll review them and so long as it’s not total spam then it’ll be approved and published really quickly.

We’d really like people looking to organise stag parties, hen dos or team building activities to find this site and organise their events through us so please do tell your friends about the website, or like our Outdoor Activities facebook page so your friends can find the outdoor adventure website too.

Warning to Outdoor Industry Retailers from OCC

Rock Steady Adventure have been asked to publicise this article from OCC Outdoor

Alert to all distributors and retailers

The outdoor industry has become the focus of a concerted effort by a team of conmen working under the guise of being legitimate retailers. The team, which has already netted many thousands of pounds worth of outdoor clothing and accessories, has made numerous attempts to steal gear from the trade in the lead up to Christmas, as a result of which OCC Outdoor is asking all subscribers to its news update service to pass the message down the line warning the industry to be on its guard.

The con usually involves a supplier receiving a call from someone purporting to represent an existing account holder. An order is placed for the goods and the supplier advised that the buyer will collect. Often the thieves will suggest they have a van close by and ask if they can come to collect that day. Suppliers asking for e mail order confirmations should pay close attention to the sender’s e mail address which often differs by a single letter from that of a legitimate account customer.  Those suspecting something is amiss should call the account holder to authenticate the order.
